The show of Palais-Royal

The show of Palais-Royal

Masters of Linen with CELC (Confédération Européenne du Lin et du Chanvre – ‘Linen and Hemp European Confederation’) organizes an artistic event in the heart of Palais-Royal in Paris : LINSTALLATION (’Implementation of Linen’), from 2nd to 7th July 2010 during the Couture Week.

This bucolic exhibition in Paris stages this special and smart fabric, from the plant to the ended product. The 200 m² of blooming linen in ground remind the European origins of this culture where France (North of the country) is the first producer.

Lin champThis event is the opportunity for around 20 designers and couturier to express their art freely on the theme of scarecrow…

Lin fibres

It is also the opportunity to talk about this material that is considered as a “complicated” material to wear, to iron… when it  is soft and becomes beautiful with time. It is amazingly resistant : it can be used to make ropes and isolating material for construction. The stems of linen have longer fibers than the fibers of cotton and hemp, or medium ones (for wool).

The culture of linen is really interesting : European linen is ecological. It needs five times less of  chemicals as cotton. Its culture is rotating so it does not damage the soils and above all no irrigation is needed for growth.

Also the transformation of the plant into fibers is environmental friendly. Indeed it does not it energy nor solvents, unlike artificial fibers as viscose for example.

So let’s go to the Palais-Royal for a beautiful history about linen and scarecrows…

From 2nd to 7th July – free access everyday from 7.00 am to 11.00 pm
