An art gallery not like the others… CHINART highlights contemporary Chinese art in a Parisian place by showing young artists and designers.
The gallery has been Launched in 2005 by two designers Clément Ledermann, photograph and Katrin Rougeventre a China-lover. Chinart is on the big fairs in Paris and it distributes in Europe and United States a line of fashion accessories and stationery. Chinart is very attentive to ethical production (respect of people and their work) : it only offers little series items with traditional know-how and modernity as well.
“Made in China” has been always criticized but it is not what it seems ! Artists get inspiration from a lot of influences, they express their art in such a diverse way : photography, painting, peinture, graffitis, sewing, comics…
CHINART show their work : this is a way of changing our sight on the new artistic identity of this country. The artists act with the respect to cultures and multicultural exchanges with limited editions. Freedom of expression is complete : fashion, lifestyle, design… all this shows China in a turmoil. The artists are just reinventing their millenial heritage in their mutating civilization.

To quote from Jean-Marc Attia, the founder of MARRON ROUGE : there are two kinds of shopping… the one which pleases us and the one which really pleases us, because it makes sense… with heart I will would like to add !
MARRON ROUGE is a brand of ethical accessories and fashion, and decoration from fair trade. Jean-Marc started the adventure in 2010 with a beautiful project : to settle a network of ethical trade between India and France.
He already knows something about ethics… as he has been administrator in Africa for the International Committee of the Red Cross. Furthermore his passion for India had led him to commit to the association ‘Parrainages Inde’ (Sponsoring India) which helps women who live by their own (widow or abandoned women) to finance their children to go to school.
So MARRON ROUGE was born : a beautiful project that highlights the sewing know-how of women by a local production, mainly located in Pondicherry and Madurai in an ethical trade approach.
The other half of MARRON ROUGE is Thierry who has left bank industry and computing…

An information not so common but not very original too : the consumer is attracted in his shopping act by some specific colours. We already know the impact of colour on our environment and our mood. But we did not know that we were so… manipulated. Indeed there are some colours that stimulate the consumer according to the effect that the “seller” wants to create : a compulsive buying or a sensation of trust and security.
So if we analyze the shops, stores and websites, we clearly notice that the consumer is guided in his actions. For example, blue is the favourite colour of banks and business for the sensation of trust. Green is associated with wealthy and the easiest colour for the eye to relax in stores. Regarding pink, it is used for feminine products. What about black ? It is the colour for luxury products…
If unfortunately colour is not appreciated, the shopper will not return to a website ! All this because of aesthetics : the percentage is 52%. If it is a matter of time, the percentage is worse : 64% of online shoppers do not buy if the website is too slow. Last, words are very important : if the word ‘guaranteed’ is associated with a product, 60% of shoppers will feel at ease and will be more likely to buy the product.
What a program !…

Absolute paradox of Winter 2010 : has-been is fashionable ! Do you remember the awful sweaters that your Granny used to knit for you for Christmas ? In the good years, your had received a weaved Irish-like sweater… In the bad ones you could admire a caribou, a reindeer or another horned animal on a flashy sweater. Immediately hidden in the cupboard those sweaters were surely a bad fashion trip…
But if you have kept one, you are lucky ! Otherwise go and buy one piece. The Granny-like sweater is a must-have this winter. You can wear almost every pattern : geometrical forms, snowflakes and even those famous caribous… Regarding the cut, you can wear a “loose” sweater with a legging or a slim and laced boots, or a short cut with jeans and a belt. For the knit point, large mesh and even open mesh with a basic outfit. Anyway you understand that mountain style has become urban. The greatest designers did not hesitate to present these mountain sweaters during the fashion shows.
So, how to chose yours ?

We have already mentioned linen for its beauty and qualities. This fiber can be at the same time luxurious in fashion and very robust in the manufacture of ropes. Also the waste can be used to produce compost among many other examples.
Linen is disconcerting : because of the prejudice that linen creases very easily (so elegant !) and the fine linen clothes are expensive, consumers have turned away for a long time. Just a few “lovers” of this special effect of linen are still wearing linen because it becomes beautiful with time.
So the challenge is to change minds about linen. It is done with CELC masters of Linen (European Confederation of Linen and Hemp) in order to highlight the local origins of linen (France and Belgium). The main idea is to promote its ecological advantages, the many uses and the technological innovations. Also, it is important to remind that linen is essentially European and Russian, not Chinese…
CELC has launched a 15 minutes film for professionals in order to show them the life cycle of linen from culture to the final use. Of course students and retailers are concerned : they can see how they can use this material and how it can be presented in the shops.
http://vimeo.com/16882995
The stake is important because linen represents 12 000 direct jobs and 8 000 indirect jobs through 7 500 farmers : five times more than the culture of the wheat.
The ambition is to make linen the ambassador of Europe… for this local and ecological product (rotation of soils : linen is cultivated every seven year), little quantity of water is needed and large diversity of use.

The 16th edition of salon du Chocolat ended Monday night… Every year the Salon has a special theme : for 2010, it was Ethic et Choc (’Ethics and Choc’ for chocolate…). So we have been very proud to see three of our designers already in Ethical Trade Place® to participate to this unique and original event : the fashion show ‘Tendance Chocolat’.
Designers have worked hand in hand with chocolate makers in order to imagine fairy, poetical and sweet dresses !

The designers Valérie Pache, Ute Auwärter and Isabelle Teste have created real masters of piece where their style was easy to recognize : the world full of fantasy of Valérie, the urban alpaca of Ute and the ivy leaves of Isabelle !
The chocolate makers who have been worked on the dresses are the House ‘Maison’ Bonnat, Philippe Pascoët and Lindt.

This fashion show of chocolate dresses is a magical moment because it is a conclusion to the narrow collaboration between a great chocolate maker and the art of the ethical designer. The chocolate maker gives a shape to the imagination of the designer who has to deal with this very special material : chocolate.
Chocolate squares, chocolate icing on the fabrics, macarons, chocolate pearls… Chocolate has been carved, smoothed, projected on the dresses… for ephemeral creations, a couture and gastronomic know-how in order to sublimate a divine material.

Fashion is a lot of things but not futile at all : we know very well the impact on our circle and on ourselves of an outfit that suits perfectly, from the cut to the color. If it is a matter of one’s appearance or well-being, everybody is concerned : that’s why the question of fashion AND handicap is so interesting.
To feel at ease in nice clothes, with beautiful fabrics and practical to slip on is essential. So it is important to make easier the access of disabled people to fashion in order to allow them to get dressed with practical clothes. Just think about slipping a tee-shirt our trousers, or buttoning one’s coat up, this can be a true test.
Fashion for handicap is now very active : last 18th October in Tours (center of France), the association Mode-H Europe (Association for promotion of fashion adapted to people with motor disability) and Harmonie Mutualité had rewarded 3 winners of the competition of creation of adapted clothes. The main idea was to facilitate the dressing and to make ot autonomous as far as possible.
This competition was opened to seven countries in Europe. This year it has been presided by Chris Ambraisse (founder and designer of the brand A&K Classics). Two French brands and one Lithuanian brands have been rewarded : the Prize Harmonie Mutualité to Pauline Vandôme (France, Lille), Prize Mutualité Indre Touraine to Chloé Larrieux (France, Paris) and the special Prize Mode-H Europe to Natalija Stunzenienne (Lithuania, Zarasai).
We know very well Chris Ambraisse from A&K Classics, fond of fashion, deeply human and very attentive to others. He creates fashion for handicapped persons but the clothes suit also to valid ones ! The cut is perfect, the clothes are trendy and elegant… Besides, his brand has been reward last September : ‘Prize Master Of Linen/Ethical Fashion Show’, during the las edition of Ethical Fashion Show® in Paris.

Recycling is the credo of Liza Arico : she has been glorifying recycling for 25 years in order to transform it into a real art. For example she presented her action during the last Cannes film festival. Her creations are at the same time poetic, unpredictable and baroque from dresses, hand bags, clutches bags to suitcases and every accessory that comes to her hands : she transforms them totally.
On Ethical Trade Place®, Liza presents Memories to Wear, Eco-couture to Wear and Memories to Wear but also she customizes on request !
On the occasion of the preview of the permanent exhibition ‘Memories to Wear’ we would like to mention again Liza and her Argentine world with also Brazilian and very Parisian influences…
So let’s meet Liza in Place des Vosges close to the Bastille, on 21st October at 06.00pm in the Galerie Charivari : she will be in the place of honour among other artists creating furniture and lamps.
Preview from 21st to 22nd October :
Galerie Charivari
14 rue de Birague
75004 Paris
Metro Saint-Paul or Bastille

Stella McCartney could have been one more ‘fashion’ designer among the others… Not only she is trendy end edgy but also she has created an organic beauty line.
The line is called Care – it is a mix of glamour and respect for environment. Just as for her collection of clothes and accessories where she has prohibited any use of leather and fur, she has created beauty products which are totally on the same logical as her global approach.
Here we are talking about luxury and organic products : no paraben, no conservative nor silicone. The market of this kind of products has increased a lot and it has become a fashion phenomenon. But Stella McCartney has been demanding regarding the design of bottles and pots, and the perfumes by using only the best quality of materials (organic sesame oil from Burkina-Faso, green tea from China, camomile from Egypt or bean sprout oil), and of course no test on animals.
A very refined brand that makes women want to go beyond prejudices of organic beauty products… So keep in mind that 60% of parabene in a standard face cream get into the skin and we can find around 200 chemicals in standard creams : the market of organic beauty is far from weakening.
The approach of Stella McCartney is really consistent with her commitment in ethical fashion : to combine nature and luxury. She is really a pioneer. We just hope that other luxury brands will join this movement : attention to the world and the environment, a new lifestyle…

Ethical fashion is rapidly growing : the very last edition of Ethical Fashion Show has been a success close to the press and above all new designers have been present.
Fashion is ephemeral in essence but ethics succeeds in bringing a new breath to style through materials and know-how. Also a new sales network has appeared and strengthens the expansion of ethical fashion.
Ethical Trade Place® already takes part to this important movement : the marketplace offers on line three new services in order to help professionals. Retailers and ethical designers have the opportunity to highlight their collections through a virtual showroom which is also an exchange and communication place.
First of all, Ethical Trade Place® helps to settle an ethical collection or model : a new service for style offices and buying offices who can work with the referenced designers on the platform.
The marketplace also helps retailers, wholesalers as well as shops in their actions to present an ethical collection that matches the expectation of their customers.
Regarding designers Ethical Trade Place® helps to promote and to highlight their know-how : a set of services from contacts of providers, the use of promotion tools for their brand up to the creation of their own website.
